I found the notes of one of the previous witches, Rosha. It appears she was conducting work that allows for a completely different perspective on the task set before me by the Guardians.

The discovered notes of the witch Rosha, hidden behind an enchanted barrier, are incomplete. To draw any conclusions, I must find the rest.

  • Gain access to the ancient Kaoh temple where Rosha communicated with Ishu. Use the camera flash to activate the materialization spell.
  • Retrieve Rosha's notes from inside the monument. (2/2)

The story of Rosha's child's death suggests that the results of her research may be hidden near the grave.

Rosha secured her notes with a spell. To unlock the barrier, I must create a special version of the mourning figurine of the Apatut and pay respects.

Quest Walkthrough

After you collect the notes from the beach cave in the quest Discover the Unknown this quest will trigger and send you to find more of Rosha's notes. These are located inside the Kaoh temple in the upper foothills area behind the waterlocked gate you opened in the quest Mysterious symbols. Enter the temple and take a picture of the Ishu statue and two more notes will appear. Collect them. Your familiar will appear and ask to take a look at the notes. Your familiar will question your motives for finding the notes and ask if you intend to mindlessly follow in Rosha's footsteps. You explain that you want to understand both sides of the task that the Guardians set to you instead of just blindly following orders. While your familiar does not seem happy with your answer, they leave it be, for now.

In the notes you learn of the death of Rosha's child, and you have a hunch that there is more information to be found at the child Pakuk's gravesite. To find the grave you can talk to Miruta for a hint. She will tell you that Barrow End was built on a hill that had a solitary grave, and that the upper city resembled a barrow. She will suggest that the grave had been built over, and that it is likely located inside an unused part of the buildings. If you have explored the upper town, you will know there are two breakable boarded walls that have a room in between them behind the Sweet Shoppe and General Store area. Go there and you will see Pakuk's grave, with a candle still burning on it! Take a photo of it to reveal the recipe for the Mourning Figurine.

Your familiar will once again make an appearance and try to reason with you. It will suggest that you go find Rosha's house and take a photo there to learn more about her. This is optional and does not affect the quest if you skip it. However you will miss out on some lore items if you do not do it! Her house is located on a tiny island in the swamp If you go to the swamp and enter her house there are two notes you can find on the floor inside the house. Chuckwu's notes on the witch parts 1 and 2. Next, go make the figurine and bring it back to Pakuk's gravesite. Just approaching the tomb will trigger a cutscene as long as you have the Mourning Figurine in your inventory. The room will become eerie and dark, the recipe for the Blasphemy Potion and the Unleash the Chaos ritual will be rewarded to you and the quest will end.
